The United States Department of State (DoS) and the European Commission have announced an “Administrative Arrangement on Artificial Intelligence for the Public Good”, an agreement signed at a virtual ceremony held simultaneously in Europe and the US on January 27, 2023.
The principles of the arrangement cover the common interest across the Atlantic for research, development, and use of digital technologies to deal with global challenges. Relevant institutions in the US and EU, working in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), will help to identify and develop research results in this field. The goal is to present a vision of how artificial intelligence should be used in a way that strengthens the values of democracy such as transparency, fairness, and privacy. The parties indicated that the arrangement presents an opportunity for scientific and technological cooperation for the benefit of the global scientific community.
